Restoring Paint Branch was originally prepared and publised by the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin in 1992. The Eyes of Paint Branch published this updated in 1999 with funds from the Chesapeake Bay Program's Small Watershed Grants Program, which is administered by the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. This work was in conjunction with the Trout Unlimited's Paint Branch Habitat Imporvement and Public Awareness Embrace-A-Stream Project.
